The ‘chimney log’ if used regularly (once or twice a season) will attack any creosote and volatile organic compounds helping to maintain a clean and free flowing flue.
Chimney logs can be used prior to sweeping a chimney in order to loosen and break down any creosote build-up that may have occurred during the use of the stove. When a stove is used to burn wood, deposits of tar can form on the inside of the chimney or liner. The ‘cleaning log’ chemically attacks the deposits and softens the residue so that it drops back down the flue or it simply loosens it to make the sweeping easier.
