At Cheshire Design Centre we specialise in designing renewable heating solutions for residential properties.

We have a fully working display linking a gravity fed wood burning stove with back boiler  a pumped wood burning boiler-stove, a pellet boiler, a gasification boiler, Solar thermal and electric immersion from solar PV and all this runs the DHW, underfloor heating, Thermaskirt and radiators.

It may be that you have no mains gas connected to the property and would like not to be dependent on oil or LPG as a fuel. It may be that you have mains gas but wish to run a heating system on wood or biomass as a green alternative. Whatever the situation might be we take time to understand it and design a system that is appropriate for the property with the lifestyle of the occupants.

We have provided solutions for properties of all sizes from a one bedroom terraced house to large farmhouse with outbuildings, a holiday cottage, a 3 bed semi and many more detached homes. We even designed a heating system for a narrow boat!

By combining different heat sources we can provide economical and green alternatives to suit both summer and winter conditions. Solar thermal panels are a sensible addition to many systems and can often provide all the domestic hot water required in the summer months. If you have your own supply of wood then a gasification boiler is a popular addition. All these can be run in conjunction with a wood burning boiler stove or wood burning cooker whilst still backed up with the automation of an oil boiler.

Country properties in rural areas were often heated by open fires with back boilers to provide the domestic hot water. These systems were basic and in some respects quite dangerous. It is not uncommon for customers to tell me that they used to be told to go and run a bath when the tank started banging!  A development of this where a central heating system was linked in with a pump and sometimes even combined with an oil boiler via a Dunsley neutralizer or low loss header.

We use various different Thermal stores and buffer tanks but for many residential situations we favour the Xcel HEATBANK™

The Xcel HEATBANK™ from Thermal Integration is the end result of twenty years of continuous development and improvement of thermal store technology for the provision of mains pressure hot water and central heating, using any, or all types of heat source.
