Is a wood burning stove right for me?

There are more reasons for buying a wood burning stove than simply the heat it provides. It is not unusual for our customers to come back and tell us that it is the best thing that they have ever bought for their home. We understand the importance of choosing the correct stove and we endeavour to make the whole selection process informative and enjoyable. We want to make sure you will love your stove as much as we love ours!

We sell many wood burning and multi-fuel stoves, often in rural situations, where the stove is the primary source of heat. However there are many circumstances where a central heating system is installed in the home and the stove has been bought as a feature or focal point for the room. The Stove is the go to place to cosy up and enjoy an evening in. It is often said by customers that their stove has changed the way they live. A room that was previously unused becomes the go to room of choice.

The stove market has developed and so has technology. Old cast iron stoves are regularly replaced by the new generation of steel bodied stoves. There are many products on the market and it is easy for the unsuspecting purchaser to buy the wrong one. This can be an expensive mistake. If the stove is sized incorrectly it will not burn well. This can be uncomfortable but worse than that it can be dangerous.

Who should I get to fit my stove?

Your stove should always be installed by a qualified Hetas installer. A  ‘helpful friend’ who thinks he can fit it for you but is not qualified may be doing you a real disservice as they may render your insurance invalid. We have seen a number of flue liners fitted upside down; wooden beams fitted too close to hot surfaces and flue pipes fitted incorrectly. These mistakes can result in carbon monoxide poisoning or a house fire.

There are small stoves with large output and large stoves with smaller output. There are tall stoves and short stoves and there are radiant stoves and convection stoves. We will advise which size of wood burning or multi-fuel stove is most suitable for your home. In our showroom you can see a range of wood burning & multi-fuel stoves working so you can compare the flame pattern and controllability of different technologies. We even have one unique stove that will stay alight for 12 hours with one load of fuel.

Once you have chosen a stove we will explain the options available to you for flue and chimney.

What is the best fuel for my stove?

If you have a ready supply of wood then this is a good option but it is important to make sure the logs are the right size and have been seasoned correctly. Farmers and tree surgeons will sometimes hold wood for 6-12 months but depending on how it has been processed this is unlikely to be ready to use. We will show you how to check the fuel and how to buy right. We also can show you a range of alternative wood based fuels and explain what fuels can be mixed and what fuels should not.

What is Firemizer®?
